Episode 1: Eating in Season

    Nice video! Shopping and eating seasonally is hard…

    Though my life revolves around food (growing, cooking, eating, advocating, learning) I have found that only for the past two summers have I intentionally and consistently eaten food grown locally. However, the main reasons for this change have been that the first summer I lived and worked on an organic small farm (internship) and this summer I am working with Nourish ( www.NourishProject.ca ) in Peterborough, ON, where I work weekly at the Farmer’s Market, help with kids cooking camps, and generally advocate for local, seasonal, and accessible food.

    So, it has taken me these two big events in my life to really push me to change the way that I eat, and not everyone gets the opportunity to do this type of work, or wants to.

    Can you share some thoughts about how to eat locally, seasonally and healthily when income is a significant barrier to eating good food — especially for individuals and families living on social support or living in poverty? Income is a key barrier to eating well.
