One bite at a time......

One bite at a time is a crowd funding campaign to raise funds for our co-op to keep supporting farmers, feeding people and building a healthy and sustainable food system for generations to come

one bite at a time

Eat Local Sudbury Cooperative is a place where community connects over local food.

Where people learn about farmers, the food system and food security.

Where the food comes from trustworthy sources and the people feel safe.

It’s a place that unites farmers and honours them with fair pricing for their harvest.

It’s a place where kids come to play, where parents come to talk, where everyone comes to share.

Eat Local Sudbury Cooperative is a place where a resilient community builds food security one local bite at a time.

The Scoop on ELS

Eat Local Sudbury Coop was initiated in 2007 by a group of Sudbury area farmers and eaters who wanted to develop a reliable market for local, ecologically produced food. Since then, Eat Local has transformed from a market stand at the Market Square, to a year-round grocery store, wholesale distributer, education and community development organization.

Eat Local Sudbury Coop works directly with farmers from across the North Eastern Ontario Food Shed to market their foods directly to consumers through the store, restaurants and institutions. The value of the work lies in the development of a sustainable food system that will continue to feed local area residents for generations to come. Our global food system has become fragmented and increasingly unsustainable as more control is given to corporate food “farmers”, involved in industrial monoculture food production. Across the globe, small local farmers are being forced out of the market by big business, causing our food to be in the control of those more concerned about the dollars and cents, than healthy, happy and sustainable communities. People should have the right to have access to safe, ecological food of their choice with the knowledge of where it comes from and how it’s produced. Eat Local Sudbury provides the place for that to happen.

Our Financial Support

Since its inception, Eat Local has been supported through various granting bodies to run programming to support existing and new farmers and to educate the community on food issues. In the changing economy, these grants are being cut back and becoming increasingly competitive. Eat Local Sudbury is moving in a direction to ensure the longevity of its work through sustainable social enterprise practices, but we still need your help. It will be approximately 2 years before our local food system supply chain will be large enough to increase sales in the Eat Local store to make us financially sustainable.  Until that time we are continuing to source external funds to support our work in building a sustainable food system in the North Eastern Region of Ontario.

Your donation to Eat Local will allow us to continue to work with day cares, schools and community groups to educate them on food, farming and community resiliency.  Eat Local will be able to continue providing year round access to locally produced foods though our store and local restaurants and institutions. We will build a multi-farmer Community Shared Agriculture Program that will increase farmer income security while allowing members to share the risk and bounty of farming in the North. We will continue to support new entrepreneurs to start local food businesses. We will continue to build community, increase food security, and develop a sustainable food system with access to local food for all.

Your donation will help to feed the people for generations to come.
